SOIL AS A LIVING SYSTEM

7th - 11th February 2005, Dehradun (India)

Navdanya, India, in association with Laboratoire d’Analyse Microbiologique des Sols, France is organising a workshop on learning more about the life systems existing in the soils from the 7th to the 11th February 2005, at the Bija Vidyapeeth -The International College of Sustainable Living, located at the Navdanya agro-ecological farms in the Village Ramgarh of Dehradun district, Uttaranchal.

Navdanya is a two decade old movement started by Dr. Vandana Shiva to uphold the biodiverse and rich natural treasure in our surroundings. It works to enhance the organic farming capabilities of the farmers through its vast network of Field coordinators spread out in a large number of Indian states.

Laboratoire d’Analyse Microbiologique des Sols (LAMS) is an innovative unique laboratory specialising in Soil Biology located in Marey-sur-Tille, France.

The faculty shall include Dr. Vandana Shiva, Lydia GABUCCI - BOURGUIGNON and Claude BOURGUIGNON.

The workshop will deal with both theoretical and practical aspects of soil analysis in a unique and a holistic approach.

The participants shall be trained on undertaking:

1). Physical,
2). Chemical &
3). Biological Observations.

We shall study the state of Soil –its porosity, compaction, changes in soil colour due to changes in pH, the field test shall allow us to characterise organic matter, soil aeration factors as well as use the field microscope and identify the soil and microbial occurrence.

The course fee shall be an amount of Rs.3500/- (Indian participants), USD 350 (Foreign participants) which shall include lectures, Boarding and lodging at the Navdanya Agro-ecological farms, Dehradun.
