About This Event

Seeding Bija Swaraj, Anna Swaraj, Bhu Swaraj for Jaivik Bharat 2047
Yaad Karo Kurbani, Bijo Nai Azaadi

In April 2017, to celebrate 100 years of the Mahatma Gandhi’s first satyagraha in India, Champaran Satyagraha, farmers and economic democracy movements along with Navdanya and other civil society organisations, universities and state governments are embarked on a pan-India pilgrimage (yatra) to promote Gandhian philosophy of Swaraj, Swadeshi and Satyagraha across India.

Before starting the Yatra, Navdanya organised a rally with school students of pre- middle school, Shishambara, Dehradun. This rally marched from Shishambara to Navdanya organic farm Dehradun. School teacher Smt. Pramila Devi and Smt. Anita pant also participated in the rally.

The Satyagraha yatra started in Meerut where the First Independence movement against the East India Company began in 1857 . We visited Benares to celebrate the 1810 movement against the British imposed house tax.We made a pilgrimage to Champaran on 17th April , the day Gandhi started his Satyagraha against the forced cultivation of Indigo . Thereafter we joined the valiant communities of Singur and Nandigram who stopped land grab through the land Satyagraha (Bhu Satyagraha ). After paying homage to those who participated in the Salt Satyagraha of 1930 by travelling the ‘salt Satyagraha road’ in Orissa ,we concluded the Yatra on Mother Earth Day at the Navdanya community Seed Bank in Orissa which has spread Seeds of Hope across India , after cyclones , after the tsunami, after repeated draughts . We will renew our Satyagraha for the Earth , with a renewed commitment to save and sow the seeds of freedom .We know that the freedom for the Earth and all her beings is inseparable from the freedom of people . And it is the higher laws of protecting the planet and defending our interconnected rights and responsibilities that give us the “compassionate courage” to challenge petty laws and policies rooted in greed , based on violence .

Not just in India, but the entire world is facing a new wave of greed and corporate deceit. While honest hardworking individuals are battling hunger, malnutrition, poverty and disease, corporations are stealing away their food, employments, homes and dignity. The looting of India by a single corporation East India Company was responsible for the death of over the death of over 60 million people . Today, after globalisation, corporations are again recolonising our countries trying to collect rents and royalties on our seeds , our food , our incomes , even our minds and privacy This system of violence and greed has over taken humanity and undermined democracy and sovereignty .More than 300,000 farmers in India have been driven to suicide

But knowing that their power of corruption is so huge, we also know that the true justice, for this planet and it’s people, will come from not becoming part of their poison economy, their poison industry. That is why, we continue the tradition of the peoples assembly we started at the Monsanto tribunal in the Hague, from the 14th to the 16th of October 2016. On the 29th of November 2016, a few days before the tragic anniversary of the accident, we also held a people’s assembly to hold Dow and DuPont accountable. Now we will be hosting people’s assemblies all over India from April 13th which will first make corporations like Monsanto-Bayer accountable for their crimes and then with the people together lay the foundation of a New India, a Jaivik India 2047 and a New Vasudeva Kutumbhakam, an Earth Family. We are building an alternative to the killing economy of the poison cartel . An alternative based on Jaivik Kheti (agro-ecology based farming), Annapurna (Living Economies based in participatory local/ artisanal production) and Annam (Food as health).

We have the ecological alternatives in this amazingly rich land which has given the world biodiversity, where the knowledge of that biodiversity is still with us. We can grow rich nutritious poison free food for two times India's population . By stopping to haemorrhage our scare incomes on costly GMOs and toxic chemicals we can double farmers incomes and end the cycle of debt. Through that biodiversity, through poison-free farming, we will create an India that is free of corporate rule. In 1600 the East India Company was created to loot India, to steal India, to rule India through brute force. We had the first independence movement in 1857, the second one, which concluded with political freedom in 1947, now we begin the third independence movement and this is independence from corporate rule of every kind , including the rule of the poison cartel. We will shape a poison free future, a corporate free future, based on Swadeshi, Swaraj, Satyagraha; our self-organizing capacity for true freedom, our self-making capacity without poisons, and our ability to say no to violence, to poisons and to brute force. We will together sow the seeds of next 30 years for a disease, debt, malnutrition, hunger, farmers’ suicide free Jaivik India 2047.

30 years since the beginning of the Bija Satyagraha for Seed Freedom, Food Freedom through Swaraj , Swadeshi ,Satyagraha, and 30 years looking ahead to the centennial of India’s freedom struggle 2047, we re-commit ourselves to continue the defence of our freedoms. We renew our commitment to protect our - Bija Swaraj , Anna Swaraj, Bhu Swaraj, Jal Swaraj, Gyan Swaraj and Jaivik Bharat 2047 (Jaivik India 2047).

Join us to in this Jaivik Kranti for a poison-free Jaivik Bharat 2047 based on Bija, Anna and Bhu Swaraj.

Our New Year Celebration towards a bountiful and nourishing 2017
Organic Baisakhi lunch at Dilli Haat as part of Satyagraha Yatra 2017

Date : April 14, 2017
Venue : Navdanya Organic Cafe
Food Stall No. 18, Dilli Haat, INA
Time : 11.00 am - 2.00 pm

We invite you for an organic lunch celebrating the harvest festival known all across India as Baisakhi, Bihu, Vishu, etc. This biodiversity rich meal celebrates India's rich biodiversity and cultural diversity and is also a commitment to protect, defend and rejuvenate diversity for ecological sustainability, public health, peace and harmony. For only when we eat diversity, we get health and taste at the same time.
Over the 30 years Navdanya, has worked with millions of organic farmers across India to conserve biodiversity and save biodiversity heritage of India. Our work proves that Jaivik/Organic farming can feed two Indias (Health per acre) providing enough nutrition to each and very Indian. We can created biodiversity based solution to malnutrition, hunger and the disease epidemic while at the same time increase farmers' incomes ten fold (Wealth Per Acre). But also through biodiversity based farming we can reverse the water and the climate criss and while ensuring sustainability for the planet and generations to come. Navdanya campaign Annam on 'Food as Health' is based on the regeneration, because without diversity there is no is health.
India's rich cultural diversity is rooted in diversity visible in our culture and in our food too. But this moment or Baisakhi is sadly also the anniversary of the horrendous Jallianwala Bagh massacre, in which hundreds of Indians were killed in cold blood by General Dyer. On the harvest festival of Punjab, he ordered the butchering of unarmed Indians. We will also pay respects to the martyrs. This lunch is part of our satyagraha Yatra which begins 13th April from Meerut and ends on the site of the Salt Satyagraha in Balasore. On the occasion of 160 years of the first war of Independence 1857, 100 years of the Champaran Satyagraha, and 30 years of the Bija Satyagraha, Navdanya along with other organisations is celebrating this momentous time by embarking this yatra to rekindle the spirit of Swadeshi, Swaraj and Satyagraha through India. Through this yatra we will remember the sacrifices of our countrymen and lay the foundation for a new freedom from poisons in our foods, hunger, debt and farmers' suicide. We shall also pledge to make in the next 30 years, at the time of the 100 years of our freedom movement, to create Jaivik Bharat 2047, which is free of poisons, debts, malnutrition & disease. Join us to celebrate our diversity, and sowing the seeds of a new Freedom movement.

In Solidarity,
Dr Vandana Shiva & Navdanya Team
