In this course, Vandana Shiva will join us for a rare teaching week in the UK, to investigate Earth Democracy and how it can be brought to life through the concrete experience of her food movement Navdanya – a network founded to help farmers achieve seed and food sovereignty, now the largest direct marketing, fairtrade organic network in India.

Vandana will be focussing on the core concepts of her latest book Earth Democracy and Making Peace with the Earth, in which she argues that consumerism lubricates the war against the earth and that corporate control violates all ethical and ecological limits. She will be looking to involve participants in how we might reframe the dominant narrative of our times from Corporate Globalisation to Earth Democracy.

This is a course for activists, politicians, philosophers, food growers and all those interested in creating a more just world for all.

About Navdanya

Navdanya means “nine seeds” (symbolizing protection of biological and cultural diversity) and also the “new gift” (for seed as commons, based on the right to save and share seeds In today’s context of biological and ecological destruction, seed savers are the true givers of seed. This gift or “dana” of Navadhanyas (nine seeds) is the ultimate gift – it is a gift of life, of heritage and continuity. Conserving seed is conserving biodiversity, conserving knowledge of the seed and its utilization, conserving culture, conserving sustainability.
